With the evolution of modern technologies, designs of motorcycles have also evolved. We have more aero efficient and sporty motorcycles in the market today. However, the charm of a retro motorcycle is still unmatched. Honda has done just that with the Honda CB1100 RS. A retro motorcycle with modern technology.

The CB1100 RS looks will make any biker smile

Styling - Honda has nailed the design of the CB1100 RS. Right from the classic round LED headlights, round mirrors, and the old-school LED taillight. The design is a perfect blend of old school looks and modern features such as alloy wheels and the exposed suspension. The black finishing on the motorcycle also gives it a lot of personality along with the sweeping chrome exhaust pipes.

The instrument cluster looks classic but is well loaded

Instrument Cluster and Switchgear - The CB1100 RS is a cafe racer and you turn with minimal lean. Despite having an upright riding position, touring on this motorcycle will be difficult. The cluster on the other hand also looks old school but has all the modern features. The two pods display the speedometer and the tachometer while a digital display in the middle houses a clock and a gear position indicator. The quality of the switchgear and all the buttons are very good.

This engine is meant for cruising and relaxed riding

Performance - The CB1100 RS is powered by a 1140cc, 4-cylinder, 16 valve engine. This engine produces 88 HP at 7500 RPM and 93.5 Nm of torque at 5500 RPM. The engine is very smooth and power delivery is refined and punchy. The transmission is also smooth. This retro motorcycle also gets a slipper clutch.

The exhaust note is tuned to sound like a classic superbike

The engine tends to heat up in traffic due to its air-cooled nature. Honda has preferred an air-cooler as they wanted to maintain the exhaust note of a classic superbike from the 1970s which also misfires. One can also adjust the preload of both the front and the rear suspensions.

The suspension not only looks cool but can also be adjusted

Riding Dynamics - The CB1100 RS gets a Showa-sourced suspension which is on the stiffer side. The bike offers good grip around corners, inspiring the rider to push harder. The dual discs up front and the single rear disc offer good stopping power to stop this 252 kgs retro superbike. The flat handlebar offers good feedback and so do the levers. However, The small pillion grab handle might not be convenient for everyone.

Retro is the new fashion and Honda has a great contender

Verdict - The Honda CB1100 RS is an excellent combination of retro looks and modern features. With its high displacement engine, you can cruise all day enjoying its charming exhaust note. The bike also offers a great ride and handling balance. The specialty of this motorcycle lies in its purity. All the elements making up this motorcycle are simple yet modern. Something which if launched in India will win souls of both old and young riders.
